The day that I get the official biopsy result from the Dr. It seemed like more of a formality since the biopsy result was already discovered in my ultrasound result. Dr O informed us that the biopsy result showed that I have pure seminoma. He was encouraging and told us that what I have is over 90% curable. Dr O had previously suggested that I may be referred to University of Michigan for my treatments before I was officially diagnosed. Several other family members and friends that I had talked to were encouraging me to get treatments at U of M as well. That was the one decision that I really had not fully made prior to going into this appointment. Dr O felt that the local cancer center was more than capable of handling the cancer I had. It is very common and treatable, and there is a standard protocol that is followed for the treatment of it. I made the decision to move forward at the local cancer center and leave the option open to referral to U of M down the road if necessary.
Dr O was good about answering our questions and being patient with us. Even though I already knew my diagnosis before the appointment, this seemed to be one more confirmation of the reality of what was really happening with my body. It is a eerie feeling knowing that something is actively growing in your body, and there is no quick way to fix it.
