There seemed to be a whole lot of confusion on where my testing should go next. I was told that I needed a biopsy, but there was some debate among the various group of Dr’s that were working with Dr O, that I may need a MRI first before I can get the biopsy so that they could get a clear path for the biopsy. This particular group of Dr’s came into my room this morning and talked to my wife and I. Up to this point, I had been on dietary restriction and had not been allowed to eat or drink anything. The Dr’s informed us that I needed to have a MRI done prior to the biopsy and that the radiologist insisted on being present for the MRI to make sure the tech captured everything necessary. The radiologist was not going to be available for another 3 days. This group of Dr’s told me that they were discharging me and all other testing would be done outpatient. They removed my dietary restriction and I was allowed to eat again. They unplugged my iv, and allowed me to order food. I was also told that I could walk around the hospital, as long as I let the staff know that I was leaving the floor. It was going to be an hour wait for my food, and LeeAnna was hungry too, so we took a walk down to the cafeteria.
The cafeteria had all kinds of good eats, including an expresso bar, which naturally was my first stop. It felt good to be out of the room, and be able to sit and enjoy some time with my wife while we sat at one of the cafe tables.
We got back up to the room, and shortly after my food was there. Not too long after that, Dr O comes in and says
The residents told me that you had asked to be released from the hospital
This one statement threw up all kinds of flags in my mind
- Why am I being cared for by residents
- I never asked or demanded that I be released from the hospital
- What the heck is going on!!!
At this point, I made it very clear to Dr O that these residents were not to come near me or have anything to do with my treatment, and that I only wanted to be in his care or the care of an attending physician. Dr O informed us that the MRI was not necessary at all and that I could move forward with getting a biopsy, however, I now needed to go back on dietary restriction and had to wait another 12 hours before I could get the biopsy done due to the residents allowing me to eat. Dr O called Dr S who worked in interventional radiology and would be performing the biopsy. They got me scheduled for the next morning. The nurse came in and hooked me back up to the IV. I had also been started on some oral pain killers, Norco, and now had to be reverted back to morphine in the IV due to my dietary restriction.
Note to self: make sure that it is made very clear in the future and in my chart, No More Residents!
